Created in January 2026, Love (愛 — Ai) serves as the conceptual anchor for the year. Featuring two pigeons nestled amidst a lush garden of winter peonies, this work redefines "Love" not as a fleeting emotion, but as a resilient energy. One of only 20 prints worldwide.
In the Japanese tradition, the winter peony is a miracle of cultivation—blooming against the frost through sheer care and protection. Here, it represents the motivation required to start anew at the beginning of the year. The two pigeons symbolize a shared resilience; a partnership of spirit that thrives even when the conditions are harsh. This is a portrait of love as an active, motivating force.
The Technique: To capture the feeling of handmade craftsmanship, this print is produced on 250g Japanese Washi. The heavy, textured fibers of the washi give the airy subject matter a physical weight. Printed via the Canon imagePROGRAF PRO-1100, the pigments in 12 different colors ensure that the pigeon's nuanced expression remains with color depth. It is also retouched digitally to maintain sharpness in some parts of the painting.
Exhibited digitally for TRYST Art fair at Torrance Art Museum, Los Angeles, 2026.

I've been eyeing this particular piece for several months, and when I found out it would finally be available in print I had to get it. It is beautifully drawn in a style that is quite unique, especially when considering pigeon art. A tasteful display or our shared affection for pigeons.

Merci Tatsuya!
