"In the stillness of the dark, the light finds its most profound expression."

Born from a personal request from my mother to paint the white magnolia, Dream (夢) captures a moment of magic outside La Samaritaine in Paris. Witnessing the tree in full bloom at night—its white petals shining with an almost supernatural glow beneath the moonlight—inspired this luminous exploration of contrast.

In the composition, white pigeons marked with subtle touches of black rest amidst translucent petals, anchored by the silhouette of a Haussmann building below. Here, the deep shadows of the Parisian night exist only to illuminate the pure, noble beauty of the blossoms. Dream is a homage to quiet nocturnal wonder and the enduring warmth of maternal love.

The Technique: To capture the feeling of handmade craftsmanship, this print is produced on 250g Japanese Washi. The heavy, textured fibers of the washi ground the airy subject matter, giving the "optimism" a physical weight. Printed via the Canon imagePROGRAF PRO-1100, the pigments in 12 different colors ensure that the pigeon's nuanced expression remains with color depth. It is also retouched digitally to maintain sharpness in some parts of the painting.
