"Peace is not the absence of anger, but the ability to sit with it."
Created in the final weeks of December 2025, Hope (希望 — Kibō) is a deeply personal record of internal duality. It captures the friction between how we feel and how we choose to act—the "swallowed" anger and the silent moments of hatred that many face but few voice.
The composition reflects a mind divided: one side fueling the fire of frustration, the other striving for tranquility. In this piece, the beer and the cigarette are not merely habits; they represent the "intermission"—the brief, stolen moments of peace that allowed the artist to breathe through the conflict.
Rising from this tension is the Nandina (Heavenly Bamboo). In Japanese culture, Nanten sounds like the words "turn over hardship." It is the symbol of hope—a quiet, stubborn belief held in December 2025 that the coming year, 2026, would bring a great transformation.
The Materiality To reflect the gritty reality of the subject matter, this work is printed on 250g Japanese Washi. The textured, organic paper provides a grounded, physical presence to the ethereal concept of "Hope." Utilizing the Canon imagePROGRAF PRO-1100, the print achieves deep, moody tones that capture the haze of the cigarette and the cold condensation of the beer, contrasted against the vibrant hope of the Nandina berries.

In a world obsessed with efficiency, I put my phone away to find the "Little Observer" hiding within the defiant character of city pigeons and street flowers.
